I’m helping organize a baby shower this weekend and made my first edible fruit bouquet. I’m quite proud of it, even considering that my husband’s opinion when he first saw it was that it looked like it had spiky hair. I asked him for his honest opinion….I guess I just forgot to say an honest, ‘mature’ response. My son said it was awesome and then asked me how long until I finished the cake. Ummmm…..I guess the fresh fruit all over the place was overpowered by the colors, making him think it was a cake??? I don’t know. Either way, I’m proud of it and I think it looks pretty and yummy, so I just wanted to share.

A recipe index has been added to Cooking Kids. Right now the index is alphabetical. As the blog grows and more recipes are added, I will categorize the index by subject so that it’s easier to find main meals, snacks, lunch box treats, desserts and so forth.
October is soup month here at cooking kids. With fall weather right around the corner, and possibly already settled in for some of you, warmer, heartier foods start showing up on the menu. We love soup because it’s generally easy to make, and there’s usually enough left over to have for lunch throughout the week and as a leftover supper during the weekend. I’ll be putting up my family’s recipes for potato soup and of course chicken soup, plus a lot more.

Well, we stayed up last night and made the fourth cookie. I must say, if you’re looking for a cookie you can give the kids with their breakfast, this is the one. It’s a much different type of cookie than the sweet ones we’ve been trying this week. We have one cookie left to try, and we’ll get to work on that one later this afternoon. If you’ve been looking at the pictures and wanting to try a cookie, I’ve been making them in the order I received them in the comments section on the contest page.
And the fourth contestant is:

Well the contest is underway. There are a total of five contestants, each offering a different take on a no-bake cookie. The first cookie the kids and I tried today is pictured below. This cookie is absolutely easy to make. My son melted the chocolate while I spread the peanut butter. We put them in the fridge to harden and will enjoy them after dinner. Check back here throughout the week as we show pictures of all the no-bake cookies. We’re not giving our opinion on the cookies because we don’t want any false impressions as far as the winner goes. But at the end of the contest, I’ll post comments and opinions that the kids and I had about the no-bake cookies.
And the first contestant is:

I recently spent a week in Branson, the land of shows and fun. I went to Celebration City, White Water and Silver Dollar City. Of the three, Silver Dollar City had the best food. We munched on the traditional themepark fare, such as popcorn and chicken tenders. But we also had a great skillet succotash with okra, corn, peppers, potatoes, and chicken. My father-in-law also dined on a sweet potato fry and sausage meal early in the day. I don’t care for anything other than breakfast sausage, but everyone else tried it and said it was good. They also had these great arctic drinks in either lemon or strawberry that really cooled us off.
So what I want to know is- What’s your favorite themepark food and which themepark is it found at? Silver Dollar City was voted as the park with the best food in a national survey, but they can’t be the only one’s who serve good food. So where else serves up food and fun that’s worth remembering?

| A lady walked into an ice cream shop and asked the clerk for a pint of chocolate ice cream. The clerk told the lady, “Sorry, we are all out of chocolate ice cream.” The lady says “Oh, okay. Give me a quart of chocolate ice cream.” The clerk says, “Miss, I just told you we are all out of chocolate ice cream.” The lady says, “Oh, okay. Give me a half gallon of chocolate ice cream.”
The clerk had finally had it. He said “Miss, can you spell the van in vanilla?” The lady looked puzzled but answered, “Yes, v- a- n.” The clerk said, “Very good. Now can you spell the straw in strawberry?” The lady still looked puzzled but answered “Yes, s- t- r- a- w.” The clerk said, “Very good. Now can you spell the frig in chocolate?” The lady answered, “There ain’t no frig in chocolate.” The clerk replied, “That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you!”
This joke reminds me so much of my kids! Many times they ask me for something and I tell them we don’t have it. But, like this lady, they continue asking me for the same thing throughout the day. From now on, I’m using the spelling tactic to get my point across. |
