Faux Caramel Apples
Apples ring in fall, and caramel apples ring in the fall holiday season. They aren’t only fun to make but delicious to eat. But if you have small children that won’t eat a whole apple, try making faux caramel apples. Here’s what you’ll need:
1 box of spice cake mix
3 chopped up apples
1 package of caramel bits or whole caramels
3 tbsp. milk
chopped nuts, raisins, sprinkles etc…
1pkg. popsicle sticks
Prepare the cake batter according to package directions. Fold in apples. Fill a large muffin tin with paper baking cups and fill 3/4 of the way full with batter. Bake according to package directions, checking for doneness after 25 minutes or so. Remove from the oven and let the muffins cool 10 minutes before removing them from the pan.
In a saucepan, melt caramel and milk until silky smooth. Cover the tops of the muffins with caramel, and sprinkle nuts or sprinkles on top. One easy way is to hold the muffin by the bottom and just dip and twist the muffin into the caramel for full coverage. Stick a popsicle stick into the center of each muffin. Serve your faux caramel apples for dessert or on a holiday party buffet table.
